Tintern Abbey (also known as Tintern de Voto) is a historic Cistercian abbey located on the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford, Ireland. It was founded around 1200 by William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke, following a vow he made when his ship encountered a severe storm nearby. The monastery was initially settled by monks from the mother abbey in Tintern, Wales.
Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the site was converted into a private residence for the Colclough family, who lived there until 1959. Today, the conserved ruins and surrounding heritage trails are managed by the Office of Public Works and open to visitors.
