Palazzo Schifanoia is a splendid Renaissance palace in Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, built for the Este family. Its name originates from schifare la noia—literally "to escape from boredom"—which perfectly describes its original purpose as a leisure retreat for the ducal court.
Highlights:
- Allegorical Frescoes: Masterpieces with tempera details executed around 1469–1470 by Francesco del Cossa and Cosmè Tura, representing a rare surviving treasure of their era.
Palazzo Schifanoia was part of a famous network of pleasure palaces (delizie) created for the Este family throughout the region.
