The Museo Poldi Pezzoli is a renowned art museum located in the heart of Milan near the Teatro alla Scala, on Via Manzoni 12. Originally created in the 19th century from the private collection of Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli and his mother, Rosa Trivulzio, the house and its contents were bequeathed to the public and opened as a museum in 1881.
Housed in a grand Neoclassical palazzo with an English-style interior garden, its rooms were meticulously decorated by artists Luigi Scrosati and Giuseppe Bertini to complement the specific artworks on display. After suffering severe damage during World War II, the museum reopened in 1951.
Collection Highlights:
- Northern Italian, Netherlandish, and Flemish paintings
- Historical weaponry and armor
- Glassworks, ceramics, jewelry, and decorative furnishings
