entry
Lobos Island (Isla de Lobos) is a peaceful volcanic islet situated just two kilometers north of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. Covering 4.68 square kilometers, it has been protected as a nature reserve (Parque Natural del Islote de Lobos) since 1982.
Highlights:
- Activities: Excellent destination for hiking and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters.
- Punta Martiño Lighthouse: Located on the northeastern point, this spot was home to the island's last permanent residents before the lighthouse was automated in the 1960s.
- History: In 1405, the island served as a resupply base during Jean de Béthencourt's conquest of Fuerteventura.
The island is easily reached via a short ferry ride from Corralejo and offers day facilities alongside local fishermen's shelters.
